Every year as the 17th of March approaches the Irish diaspora, who are spread right across the globe, become a little bit more visible as they prepare to celebrate their national day.  The Irish community in Romania is a small but vibrant one both in terms of culture as well as business links and during March we have a splendid opportunity to celebrate all things Irish.

The Romania Ireland Business Association (RIBA), an independent, non-profit organisation set up in 2014, works in close partnership with the Embassy of Ireland in Romania to promote and develop Irish-Romanian trade and investment links.  Our membership ranges from SMEs to large Irish multi-nationals operating on the Romanian market.  The overriding objective of the association is to promote and strengthen bilateral economic relations between Romania and Ireland working in close cooperation with the Irish Embassy.  We strive to help our members prosper and succeed through the facilitation of proactive working partnerships, establishing networks and providing advice and support when dealing with Irish and Romanian authorities.

This year RIBA are marking the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations with a number of events for the business community and beyond.  The first such event will take place on St. Patrick’s Day itself, Saturday the 17th March and will be a mix of sport, great food and drink, Irish music and dance and business networking.  For the third consecutive year RIBA will be hosting together with our colleagues from the British Romanian Chamber of Commerce, the Camera de Comert, Industrie si Agricultura Franceza in Romania and the Camera de Commercio Italiana per la Romania the gathering of rugby fans from the Irish, British, French and Italian business communities to watch the exciting culmination of the 2018 Six Nations Rugby Tournament.  Each of the three thrilling matches will be preceded by a buffet meal with specialties from the respective nations which can be washed down by a Guinness, Peroni or Ursus beer.  On top of the all the rugby fun St. Patrick’s Day entertainment will be provided by a performance from the Steysha school of Irish Dance and for those who have survived the excitement of the day the evening will be rounded off with live Irish music from Irish Folk band the Foggy Few.

On the evening of Saturday the 24th of March, RIBA is proud to be this year’s host of the 7th annual St. Patrick’s Day Ball.  This formal black-tie gala dinner with an Irish-themed menu, Jameson Whiskey, thrilling Irish dance performances as well as dancing to the music of Eduard Santha and his band, who represented Romania at the Eurovision song contest, is without doubt the most fun ball of the year and a great opportunity for corporate hospitality.  For more details about both events please see www.riba.org.ro

On behalf of the Romanian Irish Business Association I would like to wish you “Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig!” (“Happy St. Patrick’s Day!”)
