Bucharest-based National Airports Company Bucharest (CNAB), which manages Henri Coanda (Otopeni) and Aurel Vlaicu (Baneasa) airports, completed the first semester of this year with revenues of 440 million lei, 8.3% higher than the similar period of last year, according to company officials.
Turnover amounted to 425 million lei, 10% higher than in the same period of 2017, while operating profit reached 269.3 million lei, up 19.1% compared to the similar period of last year, shows the data sent by company officials.
“The increased financial performance reflects both favorable market conditions (increased passenger traffic), the use of existing airport capacities close to the maximum level, and diligent spending management. In the first six months of 2018, we focused on strictly adhering to a chart of current road surface repairs (runways, runways, platforms) so that airport infrastructure is available in good times in the peak season. We have as a target that by the end of the year we will modernize the payment systems and access to car parks and finalize the procurement procedures for three major projects,”, said Dan Baciu, general manager CNAB.
Improvement of the company’s profit is due both to the increase in operating income, in line with the increase in traffic at the airports of Bucharest, and to the decrease of the financial expenses by 79.3%, due to the anticipated repayment of an investment loan amounting to 31.72 million euros (final balance) contracted in January 2011, according to company officials.
In the first half of this year, Henri Coandă, the largest airport in the country, registered 6.3 million passengers, 7% more than in the same period last year.
