Last week, the official launching of the Association for the Promotion of Energy Efficiency in Buildings (ROENEF) took place. The main objective of the ROENEF Association is to contribute to increasing of the energy performance of Romanian buildings by facilitating an open dialogue between the central authorities and the community of practitioners and the business environment in this sector.

“As the buildings sector is one of the largest energy consumers, increasing energy efficiency of buildings is a priority for us. In this regard, we intend to promote solutions and actions that will contribute to the modernization of the Romanian economy and its energy efficiency,” said Mihai Moia, Executive Director ROENEF. The event brought together representatives of the Government and Regulators, of the Romanian Parliament, as well as of the specialized associations and think-tanks.

The following speakers participated in the conference: Ion Cîmpeanu – State Secretary, Ministry of Environment; László Borbely – State Counselor, Government of Romania; Zoltan Nagy-Bege, Vice President of ANRE – National Regulatory Authority for Energy; Dorin – Octavian Corcheş, Deputy Chairman of AFM – Environmental Fund Administration, who showed their support for the ROENEF association.

The conference presented the study “Building Energy Efficiency in Romania: Challenges, Opportunities and Policy Recommendations”. It includes a detailed analysis of the technical and economic potential of increasing the energy efficiency of buildings in Romania, as well as sources of financing for investment in building renovation, as well as public policy recommendations in this area.

ROENEF is a nonprofit association that promotes a favorable legislative and economic framework for the building sector and energy efficient rehabilitation for buildings in Romania. ROENEF is supported by its founding members: European Climate Foundation, Alukonigstahl, Danfoss, Knauf Insulation, Signify (Philips Lighting), Rockwool, Saint-Gobain, VELUX.
