We all know somebody who has a problem with alcohol consumption – drinking too much, too often, having blackouts, or with drugs or Social Media and online games addiction. There’s a Romanian NGO helping them fight all sorts of addiction – ALIAT (Alliance for the Fight Against Alcoholism and Drug Abuse), a nongovernmental organization established in 1993 by mental health professionals.
ALIAT has treatment clinics (in Bucharest and Suceava) and also prevention programs (including a Chill Tent in Vama Veche seaside resort, well-known for substance abuse). Following its social impact purpose, ALIAT also developed a few social businesses (with employees from vulnerable groups), such as a therapeutic bistro in Bucharest – Therapy, three English teaching kindergartens – BritAcademy and a tailor toy shop – Atelier Simpluș.
