“Essentialism” exhibition, a collection of vivid paintings inspired by the need of sense for existence, the search, the path, the symbols and the findings by Alexandra Andone, who is represented by Renaissance Art Gallery in Bucharest and on the reputable international art website ARTSY, had its opening at InterContinental Bucharest on February 27, 2019.
Her exhibition was the 3rd done together by InterContinental Bucharest and Renaissance Art Gallery, in order to continue the series of painting exhibitions that promote young Romanian painters, at the Intermezzo Lobby Lounge, in the hotel ground floor lobby.
Alexandra Andone studied and works in Brand Creation and Communication field. She discovered her vocation for painting 7 years ago at the age of 27. She was fortunate enough to spent 4 years in Nicolae Maniu’s studio where she studied oil painting technique. Maniu, returned at age 70 back to Romania and his natal city, Cluj Napoca, that is now the main scene of Romanian art, after living in Germany ( FRG) and France (Paris) and having a prominent career in the international art scene being represented over 20 years by the renowned International “OPERA Gallery” ( www.operagallery.com ) , currently present in London, New York, Dubai, Seoul, Paris, Monaco, Singapore, Miami, Hong Kong, Zurich, Geneva, Beirut, which organised personal exhibition for him in New York, Paris and Singapore. However, Nicolae Maniu ( www.nicolaemaniu.com ), was part of the international art scene even before emigrating communist Romania in ’80 exhibiting in US, URSS, East and West Germany, Spain and Austria. During her art training time, Alexandra had personal & group exhibitions in Romania ( including 2 exhibition with Nicolae Maniu), marking a consistent entrance in the Universe of Romanian Arts both in the country capital, Bucharest but also in the city where she lives, Cluj- the capital of Romanian arts where the famous Cluj School of Arts was created and where internationally known contemporary painters like Adrian Ghenie were formed. All Alexandra’s exhibitions had a huge success and won the public sympathy due to her courageous and original subjects, always represented in vivid and strong colours.
“I paint because I’m always challenged by new ideas and how I should put them in practice. When I look at a painting, I see a window to another world.
A new world.
A world that unveils itself and invites to a journey beyond the wall where the painting hangs. A world where the stories are the witness of the events, where the trees talk, the wings are free and the colours simplify the forms. A world where the creation is new.”
„<Creating from scratch thematic meaningful exhibitions together with its artists>, the motto of the Renaissance Art Gallery comes more and more to life with this exhibition and the empowerment of yet another talented lady, Alexandra Andone, who reveals her passion and personality, in a reflection of the spiritual universe mirroring her own soul”, said Oana Visoiu, the owner of Renaissance Art Gallery. I fall in love with Alexandra’s art when she posted in the summer of 2017 on Facebook one of the Essentialism exhibition paintings, “Hypatia’s* fascination”. We entered in contact and, although at the time Alexandra already decided to have her “Essentialism” exhibition in Cluj, her residence city, where it was very well received by the public in March 2018, I have persuaded her to bring part of “Essentialism” exhibition to Bucharest a year later.
*Hypatia, born in 300 AD, was the first female mathematician, philosopher and astronomer, who lived in Egypt back then part of the Eastern Roman Empire.
‘Alexandra knows the roles of the intellect and of the self and manages to trick successfully the first, the intellect, that never stops processing thoughts, inventing a paradoxically and blinding kaleidoscope of colours and beings that keep the mind busy for a while, enough for the self to have its own moment in time to capture the viewer’s attention’ believes Iulia Toader, the Bucharest curator of “Essentialism”, herself also an Artist, Architect, Interior designer and Art collector.
Art lovers can admire and purchase paintings signed Alexandra Andone from 27th of February to 7th April, 2019.
