Pegas to launch smart bike sharing service Ape Rider (Demo)

Pegas Workshops will launch in Bucharest the most innovative bike sharing system in Romania, Ape Rider powered by Pegas. The mobile rental system with mobile applications has no predefined parking lots and is part of the global trend of smart bike sharing.

Pegas  has launched an innovative bike sharing system that does not involve pre-set parking spaces, but only a mobile application that includes a map of “virtual car parks,” where you can take a bicycle by simply scanning the QR code.

The investment in Ape Rider amounts to 3 million euros, which sums up special bicycle production for bike sharing, software application, integrated anti-theft system, project team costs, and Ape Rider’s logistics. Ape Rider, the innovative bike sharing system, will be available from Saturday, May 12th, after the launch event at 10:00 at Herastrau Park Berber H. The system will be available now in Bucharest, with 2,000 bikes, and will then be extended throughout the country.

Pegas  will take Ape Rider fleet there to go on an organized march to University Square, and then the route is at the discretion of the users. To participate in the official launch of Ape Rider, the company offers an initial credit of 100 lei directly to the downloaded application.

“We are talking about this system for a year, and all our partners are more than pleased with the innovation we bring to the local alternative transport market. Cities suffer more and more from trafficking, and what we propose is a healthy alternative to solving the transport problem. In fact, according to the definition of bike sharing, the bicycles you hire should resolve the last kilometer of the route between points A and B, so this bicycle rental system can belong to an integrated urban mobility system if well organized it can lead to a decrease in car traffic,” explains Andrei Botescu, co-founder of Pegas, the Ape Rider program.

“Ape Rider powered by Pegas, is one of the most important urban mobility projects supported by BCR. The partnership with Pegas is part of BCR’s strategy to get involved in developing intelligent city concepts as well as supporting Romanian entrepreneurs, such as the founders of Pegas, whom we congratulate on the initiative. Such projects give people confidence that they can use alternative, non-polluting means of transport in the sharing system and that they can have a better life in their own city,” said Ionut Stanimir, BCR Marketing & Communication Director.
