Targu Mures airport reopens after EUR 12 mln investments (Demo)

Transylvania Airport Tîrgu-Mureş reopened on Monday after the completion of investments of over 56 million lei and the first international passenger trip was made to Antalya (Turkey), MEDIAFAX correspondent reports.

According to a press release sent by the Mures County Council (CJ), following the completion of the rehabilitation works, the first international passenger flight took off from Tirgu Mures Airport yesterday morning. It had 189 passengers on board and was operated by Turkish company Corendon Airlines to Antalya.

“This flight was made possible by receiving last week  – by the County Council, the authority which carried this investment – the work performed and obtain today, June 25, certificate of authorization from the Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority, document confirming that the  Transylvania Airport can operate safely. Capacity (PCN) runway after technical expertise made last week, is 70, given that, according to project requirements it had to be at least 55 and before work it was 26. This makes it possible as from Tirgu Mures Airport can fly with Airbus 320 aircraft but also with larger aircraft “, according to CJ Mures.

The landing / take-off rehabilitation works were carried out by the Association of PORR Construct SRL and Geiger Transilvania SRL, the value of the works received being 56,758,085 ROL with VAT included. Of this amount, 50 million lei is the financing granted by the Government of Romania, the rest being borne from the budget of Mures County.

“We emphasize that the priority objective of the Mureş County Council was to make the investment in the best conditions so that the safety of the passengers and the international flights could be restored”, according to Mureş County Council.

This week will be resumed and the operation of Wizz Air flights to two destinations, namely Dortmund and Memmingen. Also, the Antalya race will be run weekly by the end of September.

According to the quoted source, Tirgu-Mureş Airport’s management has continuous discussions with all air operators to diversify the accessible destinations at this airport.

The activity of “Transilvania” Tîrgu-Mureş Airport was stopped in November 2016, after Wizz Air decided to move all flights to the International Airport “Avram Iancu” Cluj due to the landing / take-off.
